SketchUp - BIM format

Hi all,
Is anyone using Sketchup specifically with BIM (Building Information Modelling) in terms of or instead of Revit, RFI files ? Or are they separate IT entities ?
Any hints or replies welcome. MikeK1

The magic word BIM is sometimes misused by CAD-companies who claim to be the sole provider of it.
But building walls create islands, whereas building bridges connects people. Hence Trimble Connect, were you can share Files of different (CAD) software, view and manage them.

Information is key, so the use of Dynamic Components is the right place to attach to the model, but the IFC-export of the information could be improved.

The iFC exporter plugin let’s you exportthe right information:

BTW, do not think

Think in terms of sharing and exchange.

Yes, a large company might use Revit or Tekla, subcontractors might be using SketchUp Shop or Pro and the client might use this:

Or SketchUp Free.

Thanks Mike, appreciate the views and explanation of the e.g. Pro with OpenBim options. Focuses us on the Dynamic BIM side and the IFC export, I agree alot the CAD companies marketing as there own, as it needs to come from the connect approach.
