Impossible to say. Some of the magic may reside in the “Run as administrator” ritual. I have not experienced it, but people say that it is not the same as logging to Windows with an admin account and running the installer from there. It might depend on your antivirus/firewall product or the phase of the moon.
I did run with admin already before I joined this thread.
Done everything mentioned in this thread, reinstall, reinstall with admin, repair, repair with admin, Regedit and looked through all listed ThumbsUp.dll. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Who can say really, perhaps it’s because its the 3rd half moon on the Assyrian calendar when Saturn is retrograde, and the ravens gather in folks of even numbers.
Perhaps this helps you understand the frustration and difficulties experience by those trying to help.
There is a limit to how many times you can repeat things or be told ‘I have already done that’ before you just stop trying to help.
By the way, it’s Flocks not Folks, or to be a tad more specific, a conspiracy, if they are Ravens.
I just found an easy solution to this issue. Found it on reddit (I’ll put the link at the bottom).
SketchUp file not previewing the thumbnail of the file is usually caused by foreign/unrecognized items in the installation directory of SketchUp. To fix this, we need to re-run ThumbsUp.dll that is included in the installation of Sketchup. All you need is to follow these steps.
-
Open Command Prompt in Administrator
(To do this, search Command Prompt but DO NOT press Enter, instead right-click on it then select Run as Administrator) -
Type cd < installation directory of SketchUp >, example:
cd C:\Program Files\SketchUp\SketchUp 2021
- Press Enter
- Type the following:
regsvr32 ThumbsUp.dll
- Press Enter
- Next, a prompt will confirm the executed command which means it is done
*This method is an alternative to the repair option on the installer file (not a reliable fix for this problem) or other file explorer troubleshooting fixes.
*This method works for all SketchUp version and the latest Windows OS
It worked like a charm for me, the thumbnails of all my .skp files instantly showing up without even restarting my computer.
I’ve tried the regedit method but somehow the thumbnails only showing for my .skb files, not to mention that it only works after I re-save the .skp file manually.
And I haven’t tried the repair/reinstallation method at all, turns out I don’t need to.
Hope this helps.
