Shadows are locked after selected show photorealistic materials

I selected “Show Photorealistic Materials” in styles on toolbar.
Now the sliders under Shadows are locked, and I can’t perform shadow studies. When I realized that it was the “Display Photorealistic Materials” option that caused the shadow controls to lock, I switched to a different style. However, the shadow sliders still didn’t work.

I’ve tried selecting a standard style and even restarting the program afterward, but the problem remains — the shadow controls are still locked.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Otherwise, I’ll have to create a new file and copy everything over, which I’d really like to avoid.

I’m using SketchUp Pro 2025 on Mac.

hello,

go to your environment panel and uncheck set sun location in the edit tab :

in the same panel, ‘select’ tab, you can also hit the home button and pick “no environment”

Wow, thank you Paul!
That was really helpfull, now I can start rendering.

Have a nice day
