@flyingstoo, Please provide the requested details by Mark in Selection Tool process is slow, unbearably slow - #145 by mchandler so that we can try to reproduce the issue at our end.
Also, have you tried updating the Intel 4000 graphics card drivers from Support for Intel® Graphics as shown in http://forums.sketchup.com/t/updating-intel-graphics-card-drivers/350931 to see if it helps?
