Same SketchUp you love, a new way to buy

We are so busy that a month was optimistic. I’m still trying.

We’re also all working dispersed from home, so it’s not always as simple as standing next to someone’s desk and clearing your throat until you get an answer.

Ok, good, so you won’t see this message where I say, “Oh my, we are just all so very serious, aren’t we?”

So I’m trying to buy the annual Shop subscription (twice in 2 days).
The zero euro card verification succeeds at my bank but is subsequently cancelled by Trimble.
Customer support is unresponsive, probably swamped during this pandemic…
I’m located in the Netherlands: does Trimble not accept international Mastercard cards or is their system down?

Exactly. They must think we are all as dumb as two bricks to think that what they have done is for the benefit of us users. I’m a recently retired architect, having bought Sketchup Pro way back in late 2001 and have had it on a maintenance agreement since then, for 19 years. So now, if my OS changes in a year or two, and will not run my current 2020 version, I will not even be able to access my own history of Sketchup work - something I need when I guest speak to students at high-schools or colleges or do a very little part-time consulting work occasionally helping architect colleagues. They make no distinction for those of us who bought the software years ago and kept it on maintenance, other than a small discount for the first two years or so. I’m sick and tired of being taken advantage of by software companies who claim to care about their users but don’t.

At this stage I don’t know - especially since it is only available online. My problem is that I paid for and want the Pro version so I am free to do whatever I want with it. All of us who paid up front for it are now given a paltry “discount” then dumped in the same boat as everyone who starts today with a subscription. I don’t see why they can’t let those who bought the Pro license and kept it on maintenance, continue as I have for 19 years. IMO, the only reason is to make more money, not for any “challenge” for them to produce a better product. I would be prepared to pay a little more to keep my license on maintenance but, to have them put a gun to my head and try to force me onto a subscription, as AutoDesk has done too, is disgusting, and I don’t think they even care. How wonderful it was back in the early 2000’s when you could pick up the phone and speak to the guys at @ Last Software in Boulder CO who wrote it… The worst thing that ever happened was selling out to Google.

I started with it way back in late 2001, saw the potential, bought the Pro version myself for use at home and paid for a maintenance agreement from then until now. I also bought 4 or five seats for my company and put them all on maintenance too. Now that I’m recently retired, I’m very frustrated and disappointed with this change.

I’ve spent some time reading this thread, and I haven’t found answers.

Q1) will the shadow tool continue to work on my pro perpetual license?
I ‘believe’ that tool is only being offered for subscription Studio going forward.

Q2) will I still be able to use 3rd party extensions with perpetual license?
I believe I read subscription Studio version can use all extensions and Pro Subscribers will only have access to Trimble extensions.

Thoughts:
I purchased perpetual 2019 Sketchup Pro. I did not purchase MS subscription for 2020. I intend to purchase it Nov. 3rd 2020 (120+60 reinstated fee) which will give me 1 more year of updates… and then call it quits (for now).

I’m tapped out on upgrades & problems with software and hardware. I spend more time learning tech stuff instead of using software. I’ve been nickeled and dimed by life… I have nothing more to give.

It would be nice if I received some kind of $ credit for the numerous times my 3DWarehouse models were downloaded and used!

About you being paid for your models that are downloaded, that would be nice, but we already got into a lot of trouble by saying that some people can only download 100 of your models per day, for free. Interesting idea about the credit though, I wonder if that would be seen as a back handed payment.
