Price increases – another increase every year? 😵

who cares about little updates in SketchUp, if Layout stays very much pedestrian? Fix Layout by making it more user friendly then no problem with price increases. Apart from the SU price increasing, us living in 3rd world countries get a double whammy, with the failing of our currency value against the dollar and euro!

With over 35 years using autocad, and like many of us, decided to transition away from it. I did give autodesk one last chance by testing revit, but found it too much time and money. My issue was autodesk kept jacking the price, but never really showed any improvements the general users needed.

I tested SketchUp (2013) and found it much faster and better. In 2016 Sketchup announced at basecamp that LayOut was going open API and extensions would soon follow, that never happened. Nearly 10 years later we are still waiting for LayOut improvements. I realize that Trimble wants to grow their product and their market, but they have to overcome two issues, User base and industry standard. Working in the Architectural and Engineering industries, I still see Revit leading the engineering, with SketchUp gaining ground in the Architectural arena. I prey Trimble does not go down the same road AutoDesk went down.

Maybe that’s what they need the money for, don’t you think?

AutoCAD also includes: AutoCAD Arch, Elec, Mech, MEP, Map 3D (GIS), Plant 3D, Raster Design, web and mobile plus some cloud storage.

Not saying one is better than the other just giving a fair comparison.
Edit: Oh, I can also use lisp routines on AutoCAD Web.

I agree with most of this, but if they’re going to keep increasing prices, then it’s about time to make Pro a complete CAD package. Augmenting the deplorable lack of native tools with plugins is not a cost saving strategy. Paying for prices increases and for plugin prices is not fair.

This sums up nicely why nowadays nothing is shared about the product roadmap. “Everybody remembers every single thing that gets canned, so best not to tell anybody anything…”

I keep hearing about “new features” justifying the price increases, but I would just like a more stable version that I don’t have to quit out of every so often because it starts acting up and of course crashes when I restart. I’m a on Mac, so maybe specific to this platform, but to keep paying more and more for a product that isn’t stable “bugs” the ■■■■ out of me.

As a “retired” 77-year-old residential designer, I 've been using Sketup Pro for the past 8 years designing homes. Since I’m grossing around $75,000 each year in my business due entirely to the software capabilities, I can’t belly ache over a $349/yr. subscription. Doing the math, that represents less that 1/2 percent of my gross, not a bad ROI.

That too!! This last upgrade is possibly the worst I’ve ever seen. I think we’re all sick of Bug Splats. I religiously send them in, and what do we get in return … A PRICE INCREASE!!! These people need a lesson is business ethics.

I can’t find any that you have sent in. Were those for SketchUp 2025? Did you fill in any details, like name or email, or can you remember what you wrote in the description for any of them?

All I do is send the reports. I don’t fill in anything, as I assumed the important details are being transmitted to the team. I also assumed that the Bug Splat was describing what happened. I have no idea what has happened, and simply send the report, and proceed the reload the model.

well, technical details yes. but if you don’t identify yourself, there is no way of knowing which bugsplat is yours.

Like so much of today’s computer technology, if it’s being sent from my computer, my computer’s identity should be going with the report. So there’s a suggestion for the SketchUp team: Program the Bug Splat reports to identify the source of the reporting.

Like so much of today’s computer technology, it’s anonymised data.
they know the machine, the model, the os, the bug, the plugins… but they don’t have your actual infos unless you provide them.
otherwise that would be a massive privacy issue. the EU wouldn’t let this flow (and that’s good)

ok it’s very simple, next bugsplat, you fill in your email and your name.
and that’s it. in all foreseeable future, unless you do a full uninstall, your bugsplats will be pre-filled, and if you come then ask “what’s wrong this time?” Colin or Barry can easily find your bugsplat among the mass of anonymous reports and tell what SU was doing when it crashed.

Advice taken. Next time that’s what I’ll do.

I tried to reply with just the above, but got this:

yes, you can’t double post the same message in a row, it’s to avoid double posts due to bad connexion

(the fact you didn’t directly answer to me actually doesn’t really matter, the thread appears in my reading list anyway)

What can sometimes help is a description of what actions you were taking at the time the problem happened. Knowing that, or your name or email, would let me search for the ones you sent in.

To the best of my recollections, all I can remember doing is clicking on something and getting the dreaded “hour glass”. Clicking a second time brings on the Bug Splat. In the future, I will try to make an effort to describe what has precipitated the problem as accurately as I can.

Some day I might make a book showing the descriptions people have sent in. Most of the pages of the book would be blank, and some of the pages would feature adult language.

Thanks for any details you can add.
