Hi, I’m trying to add a pillar, from a top roof area, but I can’t get the end point of the group for the roof. When I try to move the pillar (component) to other corners, the base of the roof gets copied along with the pillar. I tried zooming the corners, to get a better view on how I placed my pillar but still can’t get it right. Please assist. I want to create the pillar, add it to component, then copy it to other corners. Without the top roof area moving along.
Please share the model file of what you have got so far. To go along with the text of you post. So we can understand.
Attached. When trying to only select one pillar , the base gets included, which most probably means the pillar was not placed correctly.
We need to see the actual .skp file so we can open it on our computer to properly diagnose, please attach that.
Guessing from your screenshot you are having selection issues because your model is all raw geometry. Are your roof and base both already made into components or groups?
The roof - Group, pillars - component.

Hi, above is the attachment .skp file.
As mentioned above, and as shown in your screenshot, parts are not grouped.
The basics are essential. If you spend some time at The Learning Center, you will learn how to use the tools to get what you want. (interactive tutorials) Also, go to The SketchUp YouTube Channel and pay attention to the Square One series. Both are sponsored by the SketchUp Crew and well worth the time spent there.
I looked again to see why you believed you had a group and component, and in fact you have created the pillar as a component but you have neglected the tick box for replacing the geometry with the newly made component.
Hi , I checked above , thanks for taking time to respond. It shows that pillar is done separately from the roof. Thanks again.
Yup , I’m on the learning centre, making the Playground area on the videos, from scratch. I have done the course, now I’m applying it to make the real design. I did the pillars with the roof base. But below, someone shared a nice video that I can do without drawing it to the base of the roof. Thanks for taking time. Videos helped a lot !!
thank you ! this is clear now .
