Hello everyone !

I’ve never posted much of what I do, and for once I’ve just finished a model that is not for a competition, meaning there’s nothing confidential.

We mostly work on theaters, and this one’s been totally renovated by our team about 15 years ago.

It’s the blossac theater located in châtellerault, France, an Italian-style proscenium theatre, with a horseshoe-shaped auditorium.

It had not been modeled in 3D at the time, or only small bits ; and because we are soon to release a book about it I modelled everything from every 2D plans, 2 section cuts and few elevations for illustrations.

these are jpg raw export from sketchup

It took about 30h to build from scratch.

I’ll post some other older models from time to time !

Happy modelling !

Yeah, wow! Fabulous model! Your reference drawings look like the were vector (not raster) drawings, yes? Can you actually see the rafters when up in the top balcony seats, or are they covered with some finishes?

Thank you Robert !

The reference plans are dwg’s (helps a lot)

You are right for pointing out the visible rafters at the very top. It’s my mistake, there should be a false ceiling above the top rows

First of all: Wow indeed! A joy for the eye the way you modeled the theatre.

I in my case would have needed to scale up that time by a factor 10 (at least).

Brilliant model!

I mean, the leaves on the columns alone…

I must say the 3D warehouse kind of helped for that bit :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Beautiful work! I´m amazed because I had never seen before a model of an old building (neo classical), modeled completly in Sketchup. The amount of detail is impresive. Thanks for sharing!

Sorry! I don’t intend to criticize such a great model, BTW, it just got me wondering. Modeling is a bottomless pit sometimes.

Don’t be sorry ! It’s not just meant to be shown off, and I truly welcome criticism

yours was very much appreciated and allowed me to make corrections! Thanks again

Very nice building and model. It must have been a great pleasure and difficulty to work with it.

I am wondering how the render was produced and how was the baroque details added to it? It looks splendid, so the the model, but this latter doesn’t seem to have all the decoration on it. I wonder what would be the best way to add them without physically modelling them - as it would weigh down the model immensely as well add days to the modeling time.

hello, if you’re talking about the last image, it is a picture !

That’s why it looks so realistic !:upside_down_face:

Ohhhh

Wow, fantastic!

These were done with just the .dwg’s for reference or did you have some scanned data to use as well?

My first reaction was “only 30 hours?!!!”.

Thank you !

Only dwg’s

33 hours precisely (I should know : I charge by the hour :face_with_hand_over_mouth:)

Just outstanding work! This allowed me to reminisce about several stage curtain projects our company produced during my career.
