Path of intersecting cylinders

I’m looking for a way to get the path of two cylinders intersecting at right angle.

Once I have the path, I’d like to use it in Illustrator.
Any way to do this in SketchUp?

Select both cylinders and intersect them. Then you can remove the intersection to do as you please.

How do you plan to use it in Illustrator? Your profile indicates you are using SketchUp Free (the web-based version) and if this is correct, after you’ve created the intersection, you can export a raster image. If you need a vector export you would have to use SketchUp Shop or SketchUp Pro.

Any way to flatten this “chip” out and get some sort of ellipse in a plan?

Set the camera to Parallel Projection and choose the Plan (Top) view.
