Nearmap aerial imagery is now available in SketchUp’s Add Location!

“Nearmap captures the urban United States and Canada…” I doubt other areas will be made available soon (the market is weak).

OK - I think my expectations were wrong. Yes, I see the general topology but the buildings do not really show. Perhaps that is where Placemaker adds something else. I will take a look at it just to see how that works.

There won’t be any 3D buildings in the Geo-Location import. That’s an additional feature in Place Maker.

Yep, was just looking at their site. Some pretty neat stuff (if you have the money and need to pay for it).

I’m super excited that there is better quality 3D imagery out there somewhere, but super disappointed that it’s not available in my location at any price. It sucks to be part of the 30%.

Could it be a sign that you should relocate?

But this town has the best snowboarding terrain in the world.

I’d take snowboarding terrain over hi res imagery, too.

I have a Near Maps subscription, as well as the Sketchup Pro subscription, how do I link my account so I don’t have to pay (again) for the aerial images I am already entitled to use?

Everyone is entitled to Digital Globe images. Everyone has to pay for Nearmap images. Nearmap is a new product, and if you want high resolution images, they are something not included in an of the products you bought so far.

I realized that you may also have a subscription with Nearmap. There is no tie in between what they do and the add location feature. You could import Digital Globe images and then replace the textures with ones that you got from Nearmap.

Imported Nearmap image, VERY NICE. However, I can’t seem to move it where it needs to be. My prior, low resolution map, is perfectly positioned but the Nearmap is NOT. How can I get it placed under my model accurately?

Nevermind, it came in locked. I unlocked it and can now move it fine…

FWIW, terrain groups and snapshots always come in locked.

I’m in Australia and used the Nearmap feature. Very poor quality. Can get much better quality free online maps. Image is from Nearmap and clearly shows lack of quality. Sorry but this is very very poor for a paid service. Not satisfied.

!

Added areal photo from Google maps - free. Much better quality

Except Google’s terms of service prohibit the use of their imagery and terrain data in applications such as SketchUp.

Took a screen shot and imported it into sketchup. It shows the poor quality of Nearmap.

And here is the standard SkethUp / Digital Globe version. Fair enough, worst of the three. So Nearmap is better but not what I’ve expected when you look at examples shown that are very crisp.

The point is really that a paid version should be better than what is available freely on the internet.

I am wondering how you took that Nearmap example. As far as I can see there isn’t a Nearmap copyright in that location, or maybe anywhere. Also, it’s not easy to tell what zoom level you were at.

In SketchUp the most you can zoom in is to 18X, but the import happens at up to 21X. Here is the swimming pool in your example screenshot, and again as it would be imported into SketchUp.
