Hello,
If M1 and M2 users are happy that their Sketchup works well, good for them, but unfortunately I bought an M3 Pro mainly for SU and it’s an absolute failure, I waste hours, LayOut crashes all the time, I even installed Parallels and Win11 to run SU 2024 in x64, nothing happened.
I’m really thinking about buying a Dell…
Look around for similar threads.
Immediate solution is to use the classic engine for now.
Apparently colin doesn’t have issues anymore with sonoma 14.5
And there are problems too with some pcs.
Sonoma 14.5 is still in beta, so try it at your own risk…
Most of the reported issues on Mac appear to come from subtleties in use of the Metal graphics interface provided by Apple on M-series CPUs, particularly on the M3 chip. So far as I know, there are no similar issues reported on Intel-based Macs. If Sonoma 14.5 gets rid of them, as reported by @colin, that suggests that Apple found vulnerabilities in Metal and fixed them. In the mean time, the SketchUp devs are reportedly working hard to implement fixes within SketchUp, but there is no announced timeline for releasing a fix.
That said, it is not all smooth sailing on the Windows side of SketchUp either. There are still various birthing pains from the conversion to the Qt UI library, and there have been some reports that suggest problems with the DirectX12 graphics interface for some systems, especially integrated graphics.
I’m sure these issues will all be resolved given some time. So, your choice may be affected by how immediate are your needs.
Dell XPS all day long!!!
