I am currently a PC user, but I am wanting to buy a Mac for work. For cost reasons, I am considering a refurbished Mac Mini with M2 chip from the Apple Store. It says it runs Ventura. And had 16GB unified memory and 256GB SSD. Will this work for Sketchup 2024?
(I checked but couldn’t find the answer in the forum.)
Thanks in advance!
That should work so long as you don’t have immense models. 24 GB or more would be preferable if you can get and afford it. The rest is fine.
Thank you. How big is an immense model (do you mean project size or file size?)
Whew! Going from 16GB to 24GB adds $1000 to the price! I definitely won’t be able to swing that. I will just have to keep the models modestly sized. No compatibility issues from Venture OS with SU24? That’s good to hear. I was reading that there was with earlier versions of SKetchup.
Both. A model with a huge number (millions) of edges and faces will eat a lot of memory, as will one with excessively large texture inages. Remember that on Apple silicon, the OS, the graphics, and the apps all share the same memory. It’s not to hard to eat it up.
Ventura is fine with 2024. Sequoia is mostly ok, but not officially supported. When 2025 is released, it should be compatible with Sequoia.
