Hi everyone,
I’ve been using SketchUp for years, mainly for wardrobe and bookcase design, and I typically create full bedroom mock-ups to present clear visuals to clients.
The issue I’m running into is that wardrobe design in SketchUp is getting pretty time-consuming. Even when I reuse existing models, resizing units, adding drawers, and making small adjustments still eats up a lot of time.
I’m wondering if ArtiCad (not AutoCAD) might be a better fit for this type of work. Has anyone here used ArtiCad for wardrobe or bedroom design? I’d love to hear your experience and whether it sped up your workflow.
Before we can answer your question we need to know what version of SketchUp are you really using. The information in your forum profile makes no sense.
I haven’t even heard of ArtiCad, but if you’re using the free web based version of sketchup you’re going to have a lot of limitations compared with the pro version where you can use a plugins or dynamic components to create furniture a lot faster.
What’s to explain, you are using the free web version, or that is what you have said in other posts. And the Free web version, as its name implies, is not for commercial use. If you have clients that is commercial use.
You need a license that is appropriate for commercial work - so Go or Pro. Currently you are violating the license of SketchUp Web. I hope you get paid for your work. I believe software developer and their companies should get paid for the work they do creating the tools we use to do our work.
You could use Pro, learn to make dynamic components, and then use LayOut to do your presentation drawings. There is also the Open Cut List plugin to help with modeling as well as pricing, but again that is a SketchUp Pro feature.
I just spent time on the ArtiCad website… and nowhere was I able to find out how much it costs.
It looks like ArtiCAD can connect to the actual cabinet manufactures so this might be the answer. I did a brief side job as a kitchen designer and we used 2020 which had the models and designs from the cabinet makers. It gives you real data and prices. Best of luck.
