Live Component Dialogue Box Position Off Screen (Reset)

Whilst using Live Components, on a few occasions I have had to reset the position of the dialogue box as it was off screen and I could not retrieve it. The only way I have found that does actually for (for me), is to delete the reference to “LiveComponent” in the “PrivatePreference.json” entry.

Has anyone had any similar experiences? NB: I have a multi-screen set up at home and in the office, so do change between the two.

You can check some of my posts, to get some idea…

You can also try this Extension:

@dezmo …thanks for these suggestions. I tried them all without success…this may be due to user error. The Dialogue Cascader I think was just for Ruby Dialogue Boxes…

Seam to be you are right. The LC dialog is “impossible” to focus on with keyboard… or with Ruby API.

If you are really using SU 2024 as in your profile, I think the only workaround is editing PrivatePreference.json, as you stated.

However in my experience SU2025 made an improvement placing dialogs if the screen setup has been changed…

@dezmo…It’s also worth noting that Windows 11 allows you to check a box to minimise windows when a monitor is disconnected…the issue with LC still prevails though.

You might try editing the window’s location in PrivatePreferences.json

On mine the window shows like this:

Open the .json in a text editor, search for the word Live, edit “Left” and “Top”, save the file and restart SketchUp.
