Im a 2D kinda guy being a 75 year old engineer. Any suggestions from you guys? I just want to do a small deck and ramp for my Powerchair, not relearn everything again.
First, what version of SketchUp are you using? Your profile says your license type is SketchUp Free (web only) and the SketchUp version is 2026 Desktop. those are mutually exclusive. Telling us the correct information will help us steer you in the right direction for teaching materials.

Trying to use SketchUp to directly draw traditional 2D plans is a common route to struggles and confusion. One must rethink their workflow to begin by realizing the thing being modeled isn’t a plan on a piece of paper, it is some 3D object in the real world. The training material @Anssi linked is a good place to start to get the basics. I’m older than you, yet I would never go back to a workflow that begins with 2D.
