Hey @TheGuz, could you help me with that? Or give me an orientation on how to do that.
I think @Jake_from_SketchUp might be able to help
Let me know if you see this option yet. We are rolling out a registration form for building product manufacturers who would like to have Organization access.
I do. I even applied to see what was required / how it went. ![]()
is it only for manufacturers ? not professional 3d modellers making good models ? ![]()
also, how come I see accounts like this who have shared both products and non products ? is it simply re-sharing a product as is that marks it as such ? I thought products were for companies only
Great questions, Ateliernab!
We are considering a division of Organization (Org) types in the future.
It could be something like Manufacturers, Merchants, and Service Providers (possibly where professional modeling services live). But, we’re open to feedback and suggestion.
There are some Orgs that have both products and models. The intention is for individual items you can incorporate into your designs and actually procure to be labelled Products and Models could be samples of the product in a design to illustration intention and act as a sort of showroom model.
Of course, we need to spend some time reviving our program and firming up those expectations.
well, my feedback is, you have a massive problem. of mass. ![]()
I get that the product section is good for the warehouse image. it shows people that it’s not just randos publishing whatever they model. it’s companies sharing their products.
and some brands do the things the right way, it’s 3d models made in sketchup, they’re mart, not too complex, great.
then you get absurd models made in some other software and exported as skp files. I’m talking 50mb and 1M+ faces for a couch.
the sort of models that end up being black holes and that we have to sort out later in tech support. and when we point it out, people answer “well yeah, but it’s a model from a certified account, how am I supposed to know it will kill my PC?”
Montis is doing the right thing. sure it’s a massive file, but it contains their whole collection or something.
this is just ridiculous. their whole catalogue is like that.
there is a trash problem on the warehouse, we’ve talked about it, and it’s covered in multiple threads in the forum.
and by trash I don’t necessary mean “simple models that are not pretty”. I mean a couch that contains as much faces as this 270 x 270m model is trash.
Actually, no, I’m still 40k polygon short. huh.
We had a discussion about 2 years ago, and back then already I mentioned that catering for companies that sell stuff is fine, but you also need to cater for good model makers.
if you want people to look at the 3d warehouse not as a giant 3d landfill with a thin layer of good models floating on the top but an actual repository for good models, you need to either expand or implement the certified program.
because right now, why should I bother making and sharing a couch, it’s gonna be lost in the crowd, and people are gonna end up using a 1,6M polygon file anyway because it’s certified.
also, in the old warehouse, there was a page that would show us the list of all the “company” accounts. it’s missing. We need a way to immediately identify if the company whose product we need is here or not.
And I remember seeing a lot of non manufacturers in that list, making it even more frustrating that I can’t be certified.
Anyway.
my 2 cents.
I’ll double down - sorry, you asked for feedback - on something parallel.
Back then, on the front page there were all sorts of models curated by… you ![]()
fun models. weird models.
I can’t tell you how much time I’ve spent looking at stuff I had no idea people were making in sketchup.
now, it’s either my models, or the live models. if I need to see my models I can click on my profile. and live models are more pertinent when they pop in searches.
discoverability of new, different, weird stuff is at zero.
Just look at any other 3d library out there, they have a trending section, they have curated sections. Even a “random” button that would spit out 40 models at random would be better than nothing.
the 3d warehouse might have 5.5 million models in it, but most users won’t see 99% of it. hence the question - again - “why bother sharing” ?
thinking back at the discussion and thread two years ago.
we still can’t follow anyone but companies. yet many normal users have better stuff, solution is to make a collection where you add a single model from an user with good stuff.
we still don’t have a page where we can find all the companies we followed, and maybe their new models.
we still can’t sort the results by weight or polygon count instead of name or relevance.
Wow! Thank you for the detailed reply.
Give me a bit to digest and incorporate into my brain and we’ll see what comes out.
Cheers!
Currently, the Content Program offers one upgrade path for user accounts: (verified) “Organization”, and one upgrade path for content: “Certified”. When a business applies to register as an Organization we check to ensure they are a legitimate representative of the IP they are distributing and have a web presence (website, socials, information for users to follow-up on). Basically, we’re filtering out counterfeit 3D assets which may not faithfully represent their real-world counterparts. We advise all organizations to follow modeling best practices and currently require that they upload two sample models for review and feedback prior to verification. Organizations can also apply for “content certification” which is a manual review of individual models against the standards and best practices defined on the Help Center. Content certification is currently limited to non-live/dynamic commercial products since the criteria for certifying generic, parametric, and design-type models has proven challenging to define. Basically, all certified content is a commercial product distributed by a verified organization.
Selecting the “Products” filter will show only content hosted by verified organizations and checking the “Certified Content” box under the Specialty Filters will show only content that has been manually reviewed and stamped by the SketchUp Content Program team.
well, you might want to circle back and check - at random - old certified accounts from time to time then. it’s always odd to find Ikea pieces marked as product.
I’ll restate my point : over the 5.5 million models, let’s say a generous 10% are really worth it.
you can’t / wont purge the database, remove the old google earth models with low low res 200’s satellite textures. or the many models made by accounts that basically downloaded and reuploaded a single model or even just shared a default template (likely because it was an high school assignment)
if you can’t purge the bottom quality, you need to find a way to prop up the top quality. especially with the ai 3d model generator right around the corner
well I did see it, but now I don’t.

I’ll take it my application was denied
