Help with modelling this sculpture

Hi everyone,

I’ve been trying to recreate a sculpture I found on Pinterest to include in my model, but I’m still a beginner with SketchUp and haven’t quite gotten the hang of modeling this form yet. I’ve tried a few approaches, but I’m struggling to get it right.

If anyone has time to guide me through the process or demonstrate how they would approach modeling it, I would really appreciate it. I’d also be very grateful for any recommendations on useful SketchUp extensions that could help with forms like this as I continue learning.

Thank you so much in advance, and I hope you all have a great day!

If you want to learn to model it yourself, then you need a few extensions: Vertex Tools, QuadFace Tools, SUbD, or Artisan 2 and know how to work with quads and subdivs.

Even with @mihai.s good suggestions, it may still be hard to model without more information. We’re looking at this organic sculpture from one side only so we’re limited as to what it looks like from different angles. Did you get any information about this piece from Pinterest that you can track down other photos or sketches?

Alternatively, how are you using this in your model/presentation? You could just as easily remove the background from the image and use just the PNG image as a FaceMe component in the model.

One step further would be to use an extension such as SKM Tools to access the ‘Image Trimmer’ function - which allows for instantly cutting the shape out from the background image and turning it into 2D geometry - thus allowing the sculpture to cast and receive shadows.
