Hi everyone, Im trying to make a handle for my drawer, I want it to be smooth, grooved and rounded but im not at that skill level yet. I made a version of my idea but still not happy with it. Ive attached my current handle, drawings of my ideas, and some inspiration pics. Can someone help please? the draw face is about 8cm wide and 3cm thick and i want the handle in the middle and about 15cm wide.
How are you going to cut it in the real drawer? That can inform how to model it in SketchUp.
What version of SketchUp are you really using? Your profile isn’t clear. The “Free Plans” are web based. The free one for education is SketchUp for Schools which is for young school children. What operating system? “2024” doesn’t identify an operating system. The correct answers to those questions helps us help you so we can ensure you get the right answer for the capabilities of the version you are using.
Here’s a drawer with a recessed pull similar to what you showed. The internal geometry is probably not exactly right but until you tell us how the real one would be cut, I guess it’ll do. It also depends on who it’s for and what they have to see. Presumably you are a hobbyist woodworker since you are using some free version of SketchUp. Maybe just implying the pull will do the job.
So the web-based version of SketchUp. With that version you are somewhat limited. I guess I would model the shape of the pull area as a positive. Think of the volume of space your cutters would pass through to make the feature. Put that volume in place in the drawer front and use Intersect Faces to intersect it with the geometry of the drawer front. Then erase what you don’t need. The shape might look something like the part at the bottom here:
Hi Dave, very helpful thanks! Any chance you could do a screen captured video recording of you making the handle you made please? Im trying to use your advice but I’m having difficulties.
