Help creating foldable paper model

Hi all!

I’m fairly new to modeling, and I was looking to see if someone could point me in the right direction. I’m looking to made a model of a folding paper project that I created. The three tabs each fold down separately.

Any advice on how to create this is something similar? Thank you!

Which version of SketchUp are you actually using? Your profile is confusing. There is no Free Plan version of SketchUp 2021.

Is what you show modeled in 3D? It’s impossible to tell from your screenshot.

If you are using the free version which is web based, you can use the Rotate tool to retate the faces flat. If you are using SketchUp Pro, there are some extensions that can do it automatically for you.

Do you need something like this? If yes - CurviLoft extension

I must have chosen the wrong version. My apologies. I updated my profile.

The image is what I want to show modeled in 3D. With the three tabs being able to fold outward to show a full piece of paper.

That looks cool. I would need to fold a single sheet of paper, so that might come in handy. I will look into that extension.

Look at the Extension Warehouse for Unwrap and Flatten Faces. It’s designed to do what you want.

I was able to find the extension. Now to figure out the follow-up.

Your request is a little unclear. Do you mean something like this? (U.S. Letter size paper, 11" x 8.5")

Hi Saul! That’s definitely it! Is there a way to make that an interactive model where each tab can be folded up and down?

You definitely need to ask just about anyone here but me! (I a n00b…)

You could simulate it with an animation. If you want the user to be able to click on tabs and have them fold up or down, look at creating a Dynamic Component. Check out the dynamic mailbox component in Components Sampler collection. Of course the user will have to have your model open in SketchUp Pro to be able to make it work.
