Dear Anssi,
Thank you I will use your information.
I see this is an older post. I was wondering if there is an update for newer hardware. I can see a dedicated GPU and RAM was recommended.
I’m considering a mini pc. It has intel i9 10885H. Is there anyone with experience with these newer chips?
Intel specs.
Processor Graphics ‡Intel® UHD Graphics for 10th Gen Intel® Processors
Graphics Base Frequency350 MHz
Graphics Max Dynamic Frequency1.25 GHz

OpenGL* Support4.5
Intel® Quick Sync VideoYes
The graphics is pretty weak on that CPU.
If you can, try to find an updated 11th generation Intel CPU with the Iris XE graphics. …it’s still “integrated” (as opposed to dedicated) but is much faster than the UHD series
Hi everyone,
I need advice on the best laptop for handling large SketchUp 3D, Vectorworks, Photoshop, Enscape files open togethers. I recently bought the MSI RAIDER 18HX with an i9 (latest gen), 64GB RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 16GB, but I’m still facing serious performance issues.
Every time I open SketchUp or Vectorworks files, my laptop gets stuck or hangs, especially when I try to present 3D models. It’s becoming a big problem because my boss gets frustrated when the presentation doesn’t run smoothly.
Since I need a portable device for site visits, meetings, and client discussions, a desktop is not an option. Does anyone have recommendations for a better laptop that can handle heavy SketchUp and Vectorworks projects without lag?
Would you recommend upgrading my current laptop or getting a more powerful one? If upgrading, what should I focus on? If buying a new one, what model would be the best option?
Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!
With the hardware you describe, the only thing that can make your applications to run faster is to build lighter models. No portable quantum computers are available, and they wouldn’t run SketchUp anyway. Stop using the 3D Warehouse. Your problem cannot be solved with computer hardware.
Hi Anssi, what desktop specifications would you recommend for my project? I need a setup that can handle SketchUp smoothly, especially when working with large models and 3D Warehouse assets. Additionally, I often run other software simultaneously, such as Vectorworks, Photoshop, and Enscape. What would be the best hardware configuration for this kind of workload?
You already have that. There is nothing that you can do with new hardware to make things noticeably faster than with what you already have. If you feel that things do not run smoothly, you must change your modelling habits.
Running multiple applications uses more of your system RAM. Check how much RAM you are using by viewing the Windows Performance Monitor.
But 64gm is usually plenty, even with heavy workloads.
You’ll have tp upload a skp file we can review if you’d like more feedback on what’s causing performance issues. But first have a good browse of this forum for topics relating to Working with Large Models.
