First post, please be gentle, laptop recommendation

Hi everyone,

I’ve read the recommendation specifications and I’m still confused.

I’d like to purchase a new laptop good for this software, including rendering and walkthroughs and some light YouTube editing.

What would you buy?

It needs to be a laptop and somewhat portable.

I don’t want to go overkill of the specifications but I don’t want it crashing every 10 minutes too.

Thank you.

Paul

What version of SketchUp are you really using? Your profile says “Free Plan” Version 3 which isn’t possible. If you want useful advice please provide useful information in your profile. What rendering application are you using?

Have you read through the posts in the Computer Advice category here? I moved your post to that category for you.

First look inside your wallet. What is the price range? Within that range, you should look for a CPU with a good single core performance, and, if possible, a discrete GPU (I prefer Nvidia). Not less than 16 GB of memory, 32 if your models are big.

Thank you.

I haven’t started to use the software yet. I was getting frustrated with my iPad.:grin::grin::grin:

OK but putting bogus information in your profile doesn’t help us help you.

Thank you for your response.

Like I said, I don’t want to spend too much.

I can always justify expanding my wallet if it makes sense.

I’m living in Thailand so I don’t have the luxury of the really big box U.S. stores.

The home that I’ll be designing will be 2 levels, 3 bedrooms and about 200 square feet plus a pool and landscaping.

So, this probably puts me in the small project category.

Thanks again.

The price range of laptops in the store I often look at goes from something like 200 euros to near 6000 with more than 800 different models…
I would probably be looking for a “gaming” type laptop with discrete Nvidia graphics. Their price range seems to start from around 850 euros but perhaps spending a bit more would be in order.
