Absolutely, do you have any time next week?
Hi all - I completely forgot to mention that I have my presentation in a PDF you can get here Free | SketchUp4Builders.com
How do you find the time to model so detailed and also run a construction company???
Tomorrow I will be out but anytime this week or next Iâm open.
Ha, obsessed! I actually now have two techs doing most of the heavy lifting. I have trained them in my crazy ways and they can model anything I throw at them. A lot more money in building then in modeling!
Awesome, I will circle back with you next week. Thanks!
I designed a house (albeit not nearly as detailed as John) and was told by a couple of GCs and the local building company that I needed to âdumb downâ the plans - that the GCs see that detailed of a drawing package and immediately assume multi-million dollar house. So I stripped out all the frills and gave them what they all had been seeing for the last 50 years as far as plans go.
Wow, that is a shame! I say move forward with innovation and let others catch up to you!
Yeah. The home building industry has a lot of catching up to do - not only with the quality of plans but also the technology and building systems. We can learn a lot from the commercial guys, but the builders have to accept it.
When I show this to builders, I can see their eyes glaze over âthatâs the LAST thing I want to spend time learningâ
The other thing was - when I âdumbed down the drawingsâ - the cost went down tooâŚ
Yep, well they are going to have to adapt or get left behind. That is my gameplan.
Where and when will this presentation be available for viewing?
Kevin,
I would be interested as well.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way.
I too have heard legends about GCs basing their estimate on the weight of the drawing set but generally I find that certainty comes cheaper than ambiguity.
It is on the Crowcast website. crowdcast.io/ You can watch the next one live there next Wednesday.
Bob, I absolutely forgot to announce that I was giving away an overview of my presentation in PDF form. It is here if you want it, but then you already know it!! Free | SketchUp4Builders.com
Howdy John, Many thanks for the great presentation! Do you ever have the lines from one Tag showing through another? Like when I put the siding on top of the framing tag? I think some people call it Z fighting? Do you have a solution? Thanks again and all the best, Stephen
Thanks Stephen! We use a thickness to sheathing and drywall, etc. and only see the Z fighting when zoomed out. Sometimes a nuisance but not too bad
