I would like to model some plywood sculptures and want to show the layers and make shapes for each layer or shape it as a whole.can I do that in sketch up?If so how?

Yes you can do that quite easily.
You model the shape you want then simply slice it.
There is a Plugin by Tig called Slicer that lets you specify the thickness of âwoodâ and slices automatically.
It will even layout the slices flat for you and export to .dxf files.
