This is a really simple problem I’m having but can’t seem to find an answer.
Im basically trying to draw a rectangle with rounded edges, now in the knowledge base, it says to press the up and down arrow keys to change the corners but whenever I try it, the rectangle still has sharp corners. I’m aware that there are other, more complicated methods for doing it but I don’t want to have to do it on every rectangle.
I think applying chamfer to rectangle is not possible using the standard SU tools. There is a plugin very useful to do chamfer edges and corner. I will try to find it and let you know soon.
The Knowledge Base article you read is for LayOut, not SU. It’s rather annoying how easy it is to mistake a KB article supporting one app for another; unfortunately, this happens rather often.
This is the link http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/95602. but i have just noticed that, as Gully_Foyle stated, the page is from Layout. I think it would be an excellent addition to sketchup though to be honest.
Hello. Did you miss the rectangle above with a round corner and a chamfered corner. It can be done with SU tools. Or did I totally misunderstand what you were looking for? If I did, then disregard.
Why? Isn’t that mainly a diagrammatic shape, as for logic diagrams, flow charts, and so forth? What modeling application do you have in mind, if I may ask?
Hi, pault728. Nice to read your comment. Actually, my statement was not precise. What I meant: there is no such standard tool in SU that can do chamfer/corner automatically or massively. Yes, using SU all of these can be done manually. Thank you…
I just wanted to help, if you would like to use SU Plugins to make your work faster:
Round Corner: It is a sketchup plugin useful to create: (Round Corners, Sharp Corners and Bevel Edges and Corners). This plugin was created by Fredo6 on SketchUcation.com.
I have no particular application in mind. I am studying for my Masters degree in mechanical engineering and it involves the design of several different objects. I have modeled, furniture, buildings, jet engines, vehicles and just general conceptual designs. This particular query came up whilst modeling a table.
Please don’t misunderstand, I find sketch up to be excellent software and have used it since I came across it several years ago. What I was asking was based on an article I found in the knowledge base which turned out to be for layout and not the 3D software. I suggested an addition to the software based on the premise that many objects have rounded corners/edges. I am aware of the ability to round edges/corners in sketch up and have done so in previous models, the post came directly from the fact that I didn’t realise that what I was reading was for layout and not the 3D modeling software and I were questioning why It wasn’t working in Sketch up.
No, I did not miss it, and I appreciate your reply. I am aware of your method and have used it previously. I was perhaps looking for an alternative method with the hopes of possibly streamlining the process a little as opposed to using the guide tool for centering, then drawing the circle and either push/pulling with 3D models or erasing the unnecessary lines.
