Can someone suggest some suitable extensions for turning an irregular 2D shape into a 3D shape?
For example, say you have a path which turns at right angles but is radiused at the change in direction. Now you want to move one end of the path down a given amount so as to create a smooth gradient from the start of the path to the end. Is there an extension that will do that simply?
Not 100% sure what you are attempting, but a few ideas come to mind.
If you have an edge you want moved if you select it first and then the move tool you will be moving the entire selected shape. However if you have nothing pre-selected and and click the move tool first, you can select an end point of an edge and only move that point, the rest of the edge follows along but still anchored at the other end of the edge.
It might help to share an image of exactly what you’re wanting to accomplish. Eneroth’s “Upright Extruder” comes to mind as something that might work for you.
I can’t draw anything on my phone but start by imagining a flat road that has a radiused bend in it. Now you want to move one end of the road up or down such that you have a regular pitch from start to finish. Wherever you took a section across it it would still be flat across its width.
The task would be simple if the road followed a straight line. You would simply select one end and move it up/down. But the curved bend complicates that.
Upright Extrude does seem to work, providing you start with a 3D shape. Below is what I get. I expect there is a setting to tell it to delete the original shape but I need to work with it more to fine tune things. Thanks for the suggestion!
I thought that was how I tried using it first of all but it n didn’t seem to do anything. Must have been doing something wrong. But thanks for the correction.
