How do I make a development out of a 3D model of a steel sheet part?
There are some extensions like Unwrap and Flatten from the Extension Warehouse that can unfold a surface. How precise do you need it to be? In your model you could choose to unwrap either the inside surface or the outside. Niether would exactly right for a patten to make a real one but maybe close enough.

Note that the “unwrap” process involves deciding which edges to use when unfolding the joints between faces. For all but very simple shapes there are multiple sequences of edges that could be used. The extension will try them to see which works best if you tell it to and give it time.
