Create Geo Surface not pinpointing address I enter. (Geo-Location Issue)

I’ve looked for similar topics, but not finding them here. I use PlaceMaker to get high res images of properties I’m working on. Part of that process is Geo-locating the property with the Create Geo Surface command. Typically, when I start to enter the address, it automatically gives me a list of suggested addresses and based on where I’m at when I’m typing. I select one and it takes me to that location so I can select the area and import it into the model. All I’m getting now is a spinning deal no matter what address I select. I’ve tried logging in/out. Restarting computer. Cleared Google Chrome Cache. Praying to Jesus. Nothing works. I had the same issues on the 2023 version before I switched to 2026 this year. Thought that was the issue, but it’s happening again. Can someone help with this issue? I don’t know what else to try and I use this a lot. I can still see the map and zoom in/out and select an area, it just won’t let me successfully enter an address.

What version of the Add Location extension do you have installed? Look in Extension Manager.

On my machine.

Does it happen with any address or just a specific one? I just tried typing an address and it went instantly to the correct location.

Did you install SketchUp 2026 correctly? That requires right clicking on the installer and choosing Run as administrator. IF you didn’t it’s possible Windows is preventing SketchUp from writing needed files and perhaps would cause what you see.

@daniel_pidcock might have some insight, too.

Thanks for the response, Dave. I have Version 1.8.0 for Add Location. Everything is up-to-date. The issues occur with any address I type. I’m 99% confident I installed Sketchup correctly as it always asks me to Run as Admin when installing.

The Create Geo Surface (Add-Location) was functioning fine until today. Now it’s doing what it was doing when I had the 2023 Version installed.

Maybe I need to uninstall and reinstall? Hopefully I won’t lose all my Sketchup Extension Plugins.

Here is what I’m seeing…. usually it would try and tell me what I’m typing. I could select the address and it would automatically take me there. Now the only thing I can do is zoom into the address I’m looking for. This obviously is not ideal, as it is time consuming.

Do you mean when starting SketchUp? That’s odd and probably means it isn’t installed correctly. I would suggest that you quit SketchUp and do a cold reboot of your computer. Then find the downloaded installer in your Downloads folder, right click on it and choose Run as administrator. When prompted choose the Repair option. This may help but it certainly won’t hurt anything and won’t take long. It won’t affect installed extensions.

Something is strange with your Add Location window. This is what it looks like on my machine.

Are you clicking on Add Location or is this PlaceMaker that you are showing? If the latter, you should contact the PlaceMaker folks. If it’s Placemaker this isn’t a SketchUp problem. The fact it had been working and isn’t now suggests the something has changed on PlaceMaker’s end.

As far as it saying Run as Admin, that only happens when I installed it the first time. But maybe doing the repair option like you mentioned will help. I’ll let you know.

Thanks for the video. So this is an extension issue. Not the Geo Location feature I was thinking before. Repairing the installation of SketchUp won’t hurt but you should contact the extension’s support folks.

@onlinearchs That ‘Create Geo Surface’ button is not native SketchUp Add Location, I imagine it’s placemaker as the icon is next to the placemaker icon, so best to ask on their support site.

With SketchUp Add Location, you can import the surface as well as setting the geolocation. You can do this by clicking on the “Add Context” button that you hover over at 1:23 in your recording.

Dan

Sorry to drag you into this Dan.

Dan & Dave, I appreciate the help with this. But I was able to get it to work again by doing a Repair from the Installation file. I never thought to try this. Good call Dave.

No worries! Quite interesting to see PlaceMaker in action and how people use it!

Good deal. Glad that sorted it out.

This is what it should look like when typing the address in.
