My model currently has a dozen or so components, each of which is in the model several times. As I created each component, I entered the dimensions into the component info field. Now I would like to produce (ideally print) a list of components, which essentially is the BoM for the project. How do I do this?
If this should be approached from a different direction, please enlighten me.
So are you mainly interested in a cut list so you can go to the shop to cut the pieces out? Maybe something like this?
If so, with SketchUp Free you would need to go through the model and write down the dimensions for the various parts. If you wanted to try to setup SketchUp 2017 Make on your machine you could install a cutlist extension to do the heavy lifting. I just selected the components in your model and ran the extension. The table was displayed in no more than a second.
I would suggest giving the components useful names so you know what parts you are cutting when you get to the shop.
With SketchUp Pro there is a report generator that could be used or you can do as I did and use an extension in Pro or Make. I prefer the extension because of the way it sorts dimensions. At least at this time there’s no way to port Ruby scripts into web browsers.
I don’t know how it is in the Web version, but the component list displayed in the desktop versions Window menu>Model Info>Statistics window can be copied and pasted into, for instance, Excel to give you a simple list with component names and number inserted.
Hi Emma, The one I use is here but you can open the Extension Warehouse panel in SketchUp and look for ‘cutlist’ to find it and install it automatically.
