I think the fills should be related to materials and appear when materials are applied on solid components/groups. In styles there could be options for using material hatch, the material, material colour, all the same colour/hatch and combinations of these for section fills. And hatches as vector of course.
When you apply materials to components / groups you’re asking for headaches, rather apply it to geometry/faces. As such, linking section fills to applied materials doesn’t really work as you can paint 2D / 3D geometry different textures/ materials.
What you need to do is group your differing materials and link these to different layers, irrespective of what the faces are painted, and have section fills linked to that. This is the way I use SKALP and it works 100% every time.
