The focus was on creating a clean, modern aesthetic with realistic materials and lighting. All modeling done natively in SketchUp – including fixtures and custom tiling. Rendered using V-Ray 6 with custom light setups and reflective materials.
Asking for general feedback on 56 min long video is tough. Specific questions will always garner better responses from the community. For example: ‘What do you (we) think makes for a better learning experience?:’
A. Ambient background music and a lot of guessing as to what it is you’re doing and why?
B. Guided step by step process with clearly laid out agenda, topic transitions, and voice-over narration?
My answer would be B. I personally wouldn’t watch or recommend this tutorial. Not trying to be rude or anything as it’s a nice-looking design and all. Just not my preferred way of learning. Curious to hear from others if I’m represent a minority or majority opinion here.
I completely understand that a step-by-step guided process with narration can make the learning experience clearer for many viewers. This video was an experiment with a different style, but I’ll definitely keep your suggestion in mind for future tutorials to make them more structured and easy to follow. I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts—it helps me improve and create content that benefits more people.
I watched the first 6 minutes and agree with the previous comments. It’s not that it isn’t interesting to watch… it’s the lack of ‘head up’ as to what’s going on. If I were going to watch this to learn-along I’d want to know what’s next and I’d be pausing the video (which might double the session time) to give it a try myself. Something like (narration or captions): Now let’s make the window. We’re going to offset from the outer edge 6” inches and then make the interior face a group. I’d guess the audience for a video like that would appreciate simple descriptions and helpful tips.
Not having watched the rest I’m going to say anyway that this could probably be broken up by topic into several videos. A first video might be: Model a Bathroom! And another might me: V-Ray bathroom! I don’t know what happened in the intervening video, but if you got me onboard with Model a Bathroom! I might be more open to -getting to- the V-Ray Bathroom! video. Plus, I might have the model that I made when I followed along… Or, maybe I just want the V-Ray part (video #6???) and would download the handy model you linked to so I could try to follow along?
The portion of the video I watched looks like quality material that isn’t doing as much as it could if it were presented differently (narrated, shorter chunks/videos, downloads). Disclaimer that I don’t know diddly about V-Ray. But if I went on YouTube to find a video to try to quickly knock a rendering out, I’d be frustrated as to when we get to the V-Ray part.
