Hello! I wanted to ask if there are any plugins that allow you to externally reference SKP files so as to minimize the file size and make my master file render a bit quicker. Also open to other manual fixes that help minimize the lagginess of the file. I am trying to build a 3D campus model with many guide points for trees, and I’m struggling on how to tie everything together so that SketchUp doesn’t immediately crash. Any tips are much appreciated, thank you!
There’s a plugin called Xref from TIG that allows you to have multiple referenced skp models as well as dwg files.
For the trees you can use proxys, if you’re going to render them with V-Ray, you can use the trees from the chaos cosmos library and set the proxy to be shown just like a box, in the case you need an specific tree that doesn’t exist on the cosmos library, you can import the model from skp and convert it to a proxy with V-Ray as well.
You could use proxy objects, especially if you will be rendering the model.

You can make a component and replace later with a SketchUp file from Trimble Connect if you use SketchUp 2025. Right click with your component selected.
