Extrapolating from that, a (hypothetical) new 32" 6K iMac, with an M1 Max chip, and 64 GB of ram (the max available) will be maybe $8000!?
Time to start saving my money!
I did order an M1 Max, but didn’t get the 8 TB SSD. I did get 64 GB and 4 TB, and with tax it came out just over $5k.
That will get to me in mid-November, and then I will be able to test the differences between a minimum spec M1 iMac, and a maximum spec M1 Max MacBook Pro.

That’s great to hear, a real comparison between the two!
Do let us know what the differences are, and please do test and report on LayOut in particular, I’m very curious to see if there is any appreciable improvement with all that GPU muscle!

Too much of that is the internal ssd. Kee it down to a normal level like 1tb and the price is manageable.
