The “intelligence” part of AI doesn’t exist. It’s just a marketing-phrase that sounds sexier than “machine learning”. It does cool things really fast with the data that it’s given. Other than that it’s an unthinking moron. On top of that add in all the personality defects and biases of it’s programmers.

Having said all that- If used sensibly it’s a quite useful tool- Just like the internet- AI can help you to be smarter but can also help you to become dumber.

I wouldn’t trust AI to take control of my computer but in August I started using AI, for the first time, to help with some minor coding tasks. Back in 2022 my son had suggested I could use ChatGPT to help with coding but I laughed it off, Stack Overflow was my typical goto when I had coding questions.

Well things have changed. I’m not saying I use it for everything but ChatGPT has already saved me hundreds of hours in debug time and even helps generate fairly complex algorithms. Sometimes it makes mistakes but I would say it is 95% there, the world is changing.
