3D printing file format

I read that the only files supported in 3d printing via makerbot are STL and OBJ, is the correct way to export the file into .OBJ is File > Export > 3D model > choose .obj ?
and if so, how can I import an .Obj or .Stl file? they are not shown in the import list.

there is a .stl import/export extension at the Extension Warehouse…

for .obj, you may also want to then select options and change the setting…
