2024 update won't save as older versions?

Yes, I read enough of the thread to find a solution. I posted because I think Trimble seeing they are annoying customers by removing functionality is more likely to bring about change, not because I thought the problem is impossible to fix. Thank you for recommending the post though.

I would like to have one written for SU V8 since I need this for EASE acoustic modelling software.

You can, and they don’t need to buy anything. They can view the model in Viewer or a browser if you share it. Obviously if they need to edit the model they would need software, but even then they can use the free online version which will open any new model.

I don’t really understand the request.
In my post to which you replied, there is the code snippet that can save into v8.
Just a few comments before yours, there is a link to my full Extension…

did you find any answers?
I’m using Sketchup Classic 2020 (cant afford to upgrade) but urgently need to open this file so I can complete landscape.
Can anyone please resave for me? I have a deadline and this is very frustrating! :pray:t3:

Just as you were told before… you need to learn how to share a file. There are a lot of tutorials on YouTube that explain how, including on the Google help page.

Google search

SO SORRY, DOES THIS LINK WORK?

Sadly Sketchup just get worse and worse. I recall when it was a google product. and while many aspects have grown beyond expectation. a few of them are debilitating. like the loss of version control. I still use and love SKP (I paid for it. and am still paying. theirs the prof eh?). But would jump ship at the blink of an eye when a comparable product arrives. and it will in the age we live in. 2 cents

I’ve been using SU since forever - and have loved it.
BUT, come on SU taking features OUT of a program??? I get the idea of a version- less save - but some of us need it - critically. Why take a feature out when you are offering an “upgrade” - this is a painful discovery and feels greasy. Put back save as a version - please appreciate that many of your users “use” that for all kinds of reasons you apparently have yet to realize.

See this thread for a solution. @dezmo has written an extension that does the job.

Absolutely a bad move to do this to a program. Versions are there for a reason… finding out the hard way why it’s that way…

Nice and simple! THX a lot!!!

But not in 2018 version.

it does

“versionless” is inaccurate. Sketchup 2021 cannot open my 2025 files without an extension that only works on Windows, and I have to collaborate with someone on an old Mac who can’t run anything newer then 2021 without buying a whole new machine.

This topic is not SOLVED is an open sore and causing me GRIEF.

Can you let me try an example 2025 file that won’t open in 2021 on Mac? Any features that are Windows-only, or were not possible in 2021, won’t work, but the file should open.

it has been every file i’ve saved with 2025
and he’s remote so i don’t get to try and see what’s actually going on

So this looks like maybe relief, as the app comes in both Windows and Mac.
I tested the Windows one here and it seems legit. Hopefully Mac version is good too.

You would save as to 2021 for them, they can send you back a 2021 file. Even if there is a combination where a 2025 file doesn’t open in 2021, the 2021 file should open in 2025. Which is just as well, I tried the Mac version of that application, and it wouldn’t open.
