Wrong browser to update. Whatever your default browser, Sketchup 2016 uses Internet Explorer or (on Mac) Safari.
Try updating IE and clearing ITS cache.
And also try (in Sketchup itself) logging out and signing in again - the icon near bottom left of Sketchup window.
