@Endlessfix thank you heaps. I probably should’ve figured this out on my own by now- but your message was helpful and informative. @ateliernab yeah, you’re right. I probably shouldn’t generalize and say all Mac users- just this one. Sometimes I struggle to find answers to Mac work arounds here, the exception being if the thread pertains specifically to SketchUp on a MacOS. The steps I took above were what was recommended on a different thread, so I guess I’m glad it didn’t workout, haha. About Sonora- don’t I know it- my husband updated my OS for me with good intentions, but I’m dealing with a lot of bugs now and SketchUp is crashing a lot more. I don’t have a backup stored so I can’t go back to the previous OS either.
yeah you can ![]()
Even without a time machine backup.
Basically, make your own backup, save all your files by hand on a hard drive, and redo a clean install as if you were installing on a brand new computer. it takes a bit of time, but it’s worth it.
Click here for a good advice on NOT upgrading your OS
In general, almost nobody needs to have the very last OS version, including and especially betas. Betas are for people to test and give bug reports, plus developers to make sure their stuff is working fine.
I’m on mac os since early 96, never had a beta installed. I like my OS stable. You could still use a 2-3 years old macOS and still be fine with SU23.
When an OS is finally released, in a few month for Sonoma, DON’T jump on it. Wait a bit, and check that all your softwares are running fine on it. Eventually, wait for the sonoma compatibility update.
Between last novembre and february, many people came here saying 'SU22 is crashing on ventura". because SU22 wasn’t properly supported.
I updated to Ventura early march. I’ll upgrade to Sonoma when all my softwares are 100% fine with it.
Thing is, the huge majority of questions and answers will work on both. because for the most part, both SU work the same, only a slight difference of interface. So they won’t appear as “mac questions” but still work.
Saul’s issue here is not a PC issue. it’s a Sketchup issue. and a Saul issue too ![]()
And again, if you don’t find what you need… just ask. If you found a PC solution simply ask “hey, what about a Mac solution”. If you didn’t find anything, just create your topic. We see people of all levels, any question you feel you need to ask is worth asking ![]()
Sounds great, and I’m trying it out. So do I need to upload a backup onto my external without using apple’s Time Machine backup application. And if so, what is the best way to do that and make sure I’ve got everything? I have enough space on the external drive to store all of my computer’s used space.
