Spiral objects

Hi everyone, what can i do to model spiral objects using sketchup? i am trying to model a base for a table and it should have small pieces of wood in a spiral design.

Do you have a photo of the sort of thing you have in mind? Do you need to show the individual segments?

I think this may have the illusion of being a spiral but is perhaps made of straight rods copied around on an angle?
