Solar Electric Permit Plans with SketchUp & LayOut

Any advice for creating solar electric permit plans using SketchUp & LayOut? I’m importing (into SketchUp) a dxf of my design from a different software (combined project management & design software, it’s very useful up to a certain point because they don’t have 2D drawing features implemented).

Also, any resources for drafting standards within the solar industry? This question is not specific to SketchUp, so I completely understand if it goes unanswered.

If you don’t know how to use layout, there are free courses on the Sketchup Campus website.

I’m relearning LayOut, but for a different industry. 4 years ago, I worked for a construction company (using SketchUp & LayOut) for 2 years. And now, I’m 3 weeks into a new job with a solar company.

Any advice for making plan sets look more professional?

More professional than what?

I only have a CADD background and not one in architecture. I currently don’t include a general notes page.
(I was going to create a new thread for this topic. I had a whole paragraph typed out. When I remembered my original thread, I tried to copy over the paragraph, but the information got lost.)
I’ll try to share examples today or next week.

That would give us a starting point to make suggestions from.

Check out this extension—maybe it could help you somehow

So, are you importing 2D or 3D dxf into SketchUp? Yes, screenshots or something as an example would help.

I would love to work in 3D. But I’m only importing a 2D DXF into SketchUp.
In LayOut, I have a cover page, site plan, line diagram, and spec sheet pages. All plan set pages, except for the line diagram, use a viewport with a corresponding scene in SketchUp.
The cover page and site plan utilize the DXF.

Here’s a plan set from a year ago. They haven’t changed much since then.
