SKP file icons are not appearing in Windows 11 after switching computers

Hi everyone!

I’m having a problem that started recently after I switched computers.

I use SketchUp 2026 on Windows 11 and the program works normally. I can open, edit, and save projects without any problems.

The only issue is that the icons for the .SKP files don’t appear correctly in Windows File Explorer. Instead of showing the thumbnail or the normal file icon, only the SketchUp logo appears for all files.

I’ve already tried some solutions, but so far I haven’t been able to solve it.

Has anyone else experienced this or know what might be causing this problem? Is there any way to restore the icons or file thumbnails?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Make sure Sketchup is not running. (Perhaps restart the computer)
Download a fresh copy of the installer from here: Download the latest version of SketchUp 3D modeling software | SketchUp
Right click on the downloaded installer and choose Run as administrator.
Click yes for UAC popup (if it is apper)…choose the installation language and in a next screen choose Repair.

When the installer finishes restart your computer. Start Sketchup and close.
See in your file explorer if it is helped…
