How to merge two blocks

How to merge two solid blocks into one. I downloaded Eneroth solid tools but it has not helped.

I want two blocks to become one. I am connecting them at different angles.

well if they are both groups or components and they are both solid, then solid tools are the way to go.

can you share your file so we see what’s not working ?

Why not? If the two blocks are solid objects, Union from Eneroth Solid Tools will join them together.

Even Outer Shell or Union in SketchUp’s Solid tools ought to work.

If I have two cubes and I drag one to another they will apparently merge. I had expected the union tool to remove any interaction lines and making them appear as one sold box?

Am I thinking wrong?

Yes, evidently you are. As has been mentioned several times, you need to first make those cubes groups or components before you can use any of the Solid Tools with them. I showed you that in the GIF I posted.

I did make them groups after I created the cubes as almost a habit now.

If they are solid groups, then either the native Solid Tools or Eneroth Solid Tools will work on them. When you select one of them does Entity Info show it as a Solid Group?

Here I’ve selected both of the groups from my example above. Entity Info identifies both a solids.

Here are X-ray views before and after the Union operation.

Ok it is working but in some instances it did not.

In your example above I had expected the merged outlines should have been removed by union. Such that one shouldn’t see the demarcation of the two cubes after the union.

I don’t understand what you think should be removed with the Union operation. All of the geometry where the two blocks overlap is removed in my example.

Next time you run into an example you think isn’t working, share the .skp file. That should just be an automatic thing in your first posts so there’s no need for lots of back and forth trying to get things sorted out.

Could you maybe annotate a screenshot to show what you thought should be removed but wasn’t? Like @DaveR I really don’t understand what you mean. You can’t remove edges without killing the faces that use them.

Never mind. I looked at Dave’s example again and it looks fine.

My guess is you are talking about the hard edges that form when the two cubes become one.
You can’t remove them because they are vital parts of the structure, in some cases you can Smooth them and in others you would Hide them.

You can see here what happens in those three options.
Note ctrl with the eraser smooths and shift with the eraser hides.
