Extension in Layout 2016

I’ve been successfully playing with the C api for Layout. But if I wanted to use what I’ve developed as an extension for Layout - is that possible - ie to have the window in Layout rather than being a separate Mac app.

If not - I would like it so if the user selects something in my app it could highlight it in Layout - is this possible with deep linking or any other api?

At the moment the C API is only for reading and writing LayOut file. LayOut doesn’t have an API interface within the running application at this point.
