It might be nice to have more than 1 dimensions style, for example a larger one for overview and a smaller one for detailed work. It can be done of course, by changing the defaults, might be nicer to have a better arrangement though.
This is quite low priority, but might be worth considering.
Also in LO, you can create a scrapbook with all the dimension styles you need. From there you can drag and drop the ones you want into your LO file and apply it as needed.
Thank you Dave, Iâll take that approach, today I found it awkward to do dims in model when using LO - only decided to use LO after it had been set up, so had to make the best of it. Iâll definitely do dims in LO for the next project.
If symbols for diameters, tolerances, and the parentheses are added in SketchUp youâll wind up with disconnected dimensions. All of these dimensions are still linked to their models meaning theyâll update if the model gets edited. Leaders are automatic when the text is too large to fit between the extension lines. You can also edit things like the gaps between extension lines and the anchor points and you can choose from a wider range of arrowheads and dimension line styles. If needed you can not only change the style of different dimension s but they can have different units. Lots more you can do with them, too.
You can dimension across viewports if you need to break the view. You canât do that in SketchUp.
That is way better than I would have expected, thank you for sharing your examples and mentioning its flexibility.
I will definitely be trying it in LO again with the next project, in addition Iâm finding LO vastly more stable and performant now than it was about a year ago.
Youâre quite welcome. Iâm glad if that helped.
If you dig into LO a bit I think youâll find there a huge range of things you can do that will first simplify your work in SketchUp and make the whole process of getting the documents out easier. Good luck with it.
You donât have to âdrag and dropâ, hoovering over a style/setting in the scrapbook (and clicking) is enough to set the wanted style and settingsâŚ
short story long, dimensions in sketchup are great when you need to have dimensions visible as you work. you know, the âawww â â â â , how long is it again?â moment.
itâs like making a quick sketch. or writing with a pencil on the thing youâre working on.
layoutâs dimensions are made with publication in mind. theyâre not just for you but for all the people that will interact with your documents.
(they are prettier)
The problem came up with a recent project, I had to check the dims before publication, so I had them in the SU model. As Iâd already done them, I decided to re-use them in LO and while it did work out OK ish, I would have preferred to do dims in LO, especially after @DaveR 's suggestions and advice.
Iâm glad I found this thread and learned about the Scrapbook .Does anyone know if i can send just the scrap book to another user ? we work in same company
A scrapbook is just a LayOut file. Open it via the Edit button in the Scrapbook panel and use Save as to save it to your Desktop. From there email it or upload it to a network location or file sharing service for them. Theyâll open it and use Save as Scrapbook.
Hi, you can go to menu Edit > Preferences > Folders, then add the path of the folder contains your âtemplatesâ and âscrapbooksâ layout file. Then all layout files in that folder will appear as scrapbooks like default scrapbooks as well as âTemplatesâ when opening a new file.
Use this way, you can control all âtemplatesâ and âscrapbooksâ layout files for every computers in you company/team without save as scrapbooks one by one.
