Disable length snapping and angle snapping and don’t look back.
Then you still have the choice to set your display precision to whatever you need to see. This does not affect modeling accuracy.
I just turned angle snapping off and replaced the axis within the component… PROBLEM SOLVED.
Such a poor default feature. You lot would believe the complexity and number of models I’ve built without realising this…

FWIW angle snapping does not risk contaminating your model the way length snapping does. If you start a rotate or protractor and type the desired angle, the snap will be ignored.
I agree with your point but could angle snapping come into play if I’m re-establishing the component axis? I guess it doesn’t really make sense that it would given that the minimum snap value is 1 degree which should be large enough to be quite obviously visible on the screen if misplaced due to snapping.
Given this, I’m not sure what corrected my error in the above model when I fiddled with it.
I am however reasonably confident that length snapping in my main template/model is a source of a lot of my errors. The units settings looked like this previously:

In my defence, one of the reasons I used a lower display precision of only two decimal places was because the measurements box within SketchUp has a bug which doesn’t allow it to expand to show the entire typed measurements completely when lots of decimal places are included. This is what I see only one of the two dimensions when drawing a rectangle with the rest cut off:
This has existed for ages and I’ve seen other people mention it on the forum. Surely this can’t be too hard to correct so that you can either resize it manually or it can resize automatically following what’s necessary for the number of characters? The situation gets worse if you add in “display units format”.
Note; I do use a 4k monitor and my laptop is 4k… but this shouldn’t be a limitation for any software in 2023.
I’ve never had a problem with getting precise dimensions in my models, even for high precision models.
Do you mean you’ve never had a problem seeing them displayed in the dimension box?
I’ve never had a problem with dimensions being displayed in the Measurements window and I’ve never had a problem getting unintended dimensions even at 6 places beyond the decimal.

No. The monitor shouldn’t have anything to do with model precision.
I’m referring to the display of the dimensions box screenshot above which I thought could possibly interact with monitor size when display scaling is set to something other than 100% in windows display settings, as is necessary for 4k monitors.
If it doesn’t have anything to do with that, you tell me what is causing it. Its been like that for me on the latest and multiple past versions of SketchUp.
**Edit: Setting display scale to 100% for both monitors and restarting windows fixes the issue. All characters including units can be displayed. However for any scale above 100% characters start to be cut off. This is goes against SketchUp’s systems requirements page which suggests you should be able to use scaling up to 150% https://help.sketchup.com/en/sketchup/system-requirements. The measurements box starts to see truncation at anything above 100%.
This thread is about imprecise dimensions due to incorrect modeling practice.
The dimensions not being fully displayed has to do with display scaling. I’ve never had issues with that either. They don’t get close to overflowing the Measurements window until they get to be extremely huge.

Appreciate that the thread is about imprecise dimensions, but inability to see the dimensions displayed while drawing is connected to revealing and correcting modelling precision.
Happy to start a new thread. You’ve replied with a screenshot of your screen display which looks fine, but provided no suggestion of what I should do to correct mine.
The key to precise modelling is to “draw by numbers” instead of staring at the Dimensions box and trying to click at the right split second. The mouse cursor moves in a space consisting of screen pixels that have an arbitrary relation to the “real world dimensions” in the model.
