Computer spec

Hi all,

I’m hoping someone will be able to help me. I am looking to upgrade my laptop to a desktop and was wondering was spec you would advise? I do moderate to heavy use with Sketchup and end up with big files.

Thank you in advance.

First, a warning: New computer hardware will not help to run bloated models better. When your edge/face count runs in the millions, SketchUp will be slow whatever the specs. You cannot build forests out of 3D trees, big hotel lobbies with complex upholstered furniture or traffic jams with detailed 3D cars. Beware what you download from the 3D warehouse.

CPU: one of the, say, top 20-25 in this single-thread benchmark
(I still have a, perhaps unjustified, prejudice that prefers Intel)
The number of processor cores matters if you use an external renderer that relies on your CPU,

GPU: a NVIDIA RTX-based card.

Memory: I would spec at least 32 GB.

Disk: Your own needs dictate how much storage you need.

Processor-At least an Intel Core i7/AMD Ryzen 7.
Graphics card: At least NVIDIA GTX
Memory- At least 16gb
Storage- at least 256gb
I have no problems running SU Make '17 on my i7-10750H, GTX 1080Ti, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD laptop.
Hope that helped

I’m just repeating Anssi’s warning. So often we have people complaining that Sketchup is struggling with a small model only to find it is a bloated mess. Clean efficient modelling beats hardware any day.
