I heard that we can use Sketchup 8 for commercial use and was just wondering if that was still ok?
Also wondering if there are any other versions that may be cheaper that can be used for commercial use.

The only version you can purchase legitimately is the current version, SketchUp 2017.
I believe the free version SketchUp 8 didn’t have the usage limitation (It might have been 7) but it’s long out of support and its functionality is limited. No access to the 3D Warehouse for example and there are no compatible files available in the Warehouse anyway.
If you look at the big picture, the cost of SketchUp 2017 Pro is not really that high. Compare it to other complete commercial software options.
