Hello Guys, I used to own sketchup pro 2022 and recently updated to the 2023. I was also using a microsoft asus tower and now i switched to a macbook pro 2023. When I download the file I was using on my asus computer, everything works great in both version of Sketchup 2022 and 2023. Everything in the the multiples files I have regarding my project is working accordingly. Same for when I open the sketchup 2022 version on my new MAcbook. Everything is fine. My problem is when I open my files on sketchup 2023 half of my files isn’t responding anymore to my single click. And when I double click the only thing that happen now os a small window on the left pops with a text in it. So half of my groups aren’t responding anymore to any actions and only a pop windows opens. I have no idea what to do and nowhere anyone seem to have that problem… I tried my older computer to see if the 2023 version was doing the same but it’s working fine on that computer. I just don’t know what i’m doing wrong. I thought it could have been my Mac but verything is fine with the 2022 version? It’s only with the 2023 that I have that problem. And I thought it could be my mouse but some of my groups are responding fine to single and double click. It really is random on what groups are responding and some not. Please help
Can you share a screenshot of the window that is popping up?
were you able to diagnosed what was wrong with the picture i sent you?
I don’t see the group you selected and the text box.
it’s because i can’t even single click or double click or triple click on my group right now. I’ve circled on the picture what appear when I tried to do actions on the group. it’s on the left corner of the picture right under my first scene. Some groups and objects in my floor plan are able to get single\double\triple click on it while some of them i’m having the problem that only that weird windows appear on the left corner.
Share the .skp file. I suspect you’ve gotten the model so bloated that your computer and its GPU, whatever it is, are struggling to handle it.
i can’t uplaod it cause it’S too heavy on here. But my Mac is way stronger than the computer I had previsouly. It has better graphic card and GPU than the tower I had…
You could upload it to somewhere like DropBox and share the link.
right! here it is
also please note that in the 2022 version of sketchup evrything is working great. It’s only when i open the 2023 version that i get this problem…
This model is in tough shape. You’ve got is spread out all over the country.
Lots of incorrect tag usage which I’ve fixed.
Some unused stuff to purge.
Lots of oversized textures. Here’s a few of them.
Do you really need an image on a hook component?
The cleanup has reduced file size by about 30% and made your model more responsive.
The trees and plants are just overloaded with geometry. They are causing my GPU to lag, too. You could replace them with much lighter, more efficient components.
Setting the Face Style to Monochrome helps improve the speed of selecting as well as navigating around the model, though.
You could also make your model much easier to work with and more efficient if you didn’t have the copies of all the cabinets and stuff placed half a kilometer from the house. There’s no need for them since they exist within the house.
Still poking around. Several objects are clearly problematic according their bounding boxes.
The long skinny one is this.
An unneeded handle way out in space.
I think if you clean up your model properly you’ll find it behaves much more nicely for you.
Not to keep beating the subject but here is another sort of thing. Evidently these pulls were exported from Blender as .stl files. Due to the nature of .stl files they are heavily triangulated. 1295 entities (edges and faces) in a single pull.
A simple clean up and it’s now only 173 entities. For the size of it, this thing could be reduced further.
This kind of streamlining of the model goes a long way to making it easier to work with.
I’ll leave it now.
Hi dave, thank you for all your help. The reason why I have my cabinets in another part of my file is because it is much more easier to built them there and modify anything when there isn’t anything around it. building it from scratch and make sure everything is to scale and nice and tidy is easier to do on a blank canvas further from the house than inside the home within walls and everything. than i just do a component within than group and if I ever have to change anything on the cabinet or whatever it is than needs modification than it just replicates it inside my house too. Much easier to work with !
Does this behaviour appear with all models or only this one? What extensions and overlays have you installed?
Dave can you do me a favour and tried to click on the patio couch to see if the same problem arise for you? I’m not able to csingle double or triple click on this group. I’m curious to see if you’d be able to or if you’ll come with the same problem of having a text box opening up on the left side corner on your screen too like me.
It might seems so if you onlu have the single cabinet or a couple of cabinets in your model but with all the other bloat you have in your model I think you’ll find it isnn’t easier. Better would be to use tags and tag folders correctly and effectively as well as Outliner. Setting up Hide Rest of Model when you are editing a group or component will also help by getting the rest of the model out of your way.
It’s also important to keep your model close to the origin. Don’t spread it out as you have.
I’ve opened up another models that was similar to this one and i’m having the same problem. but not all models does that i have another project i’m working on and it’s seem fine.
what bothers me is that everything was working fine on my previous computer. And same for the 2022 version was working fine on this new computer I got.
