Welcome to the SketchUp Community Forum! We are so happy you are here. The SketchUp forum is a great resource where you can talk to passionate SketchUp experts, learn something new, or share your insights with our outstanding community.

To help you understand how to engage with our community, we’ve designed the following community guidelines. Your participation in our community is subject to these guidelines.

Always Be Respectful

We are committed to creating a vibrant space for discussion. Our community is a place to share skills, knowledge, and interests through ongoing conversations with the same goal - to learn. With that in mind, be respectful of others and work to understand where they are coming from.

Divergent and challenging conversations, including those about Trimble products or industry issues, are welcome and encouraged. We encourage the collective brainstorming and solutioning of these complex issues to happen thoughtfully and respectfully. When engaging in any discussion in our community, insults, profanity, and condescension are unacceptable.

This is a public forum. Search engines index these discussions. Keep language, links, and images safe for family and friends.

Zero Tolerance for Harassment

Personal attacks on any community member, including but not limited to bullying, threats, hate speech, sexism, racism, or any other form of discriminatory behavior, will not be tolerated. We aim to foster a positive and respectful community experience that is safe and judgment-free for all participants. Participants are expected to be friendly, kind, and respectful to others, regardless of background or beliefs

Don’t promote, solicit, or spam

The self-promotion or sale of personal products and services, as well as unsolicited commercial messages (spam), are not permitted on this platform. This forum is not intended for commercial transactions. This platform is dedicated to the exchange of ideas, not the promotion of products or other forms of solicitation.

Confidentiality and Proprietary Information

Don’t share any intellectual property, proprietary, or confidential information from your company or anyone else in the Community. Community members can cite and credit sources that are allowed to be shared, but the misrepresentation of others’ work as one’s own is forbidden. You may not post anything that belongs to someone else without permission. You may not post descriptions of, links to, or methods for stealing someone’s intellectual property (software, video, audio, images), or for breaking any other law.

Privacy and Doxing

Users may privately share their own contact information. However, sharing the personal contact details (e.g., email, company, title, phone, address) of others within the community platform without their express consent is prohibited.

If you see something, say something

Moderators are responsible for overseeing forum operations and facilitating the community, a task they accomplish with your active participation and support.

When you see bad behavior, don’t reply. Engaging with bad actors only encourages the bad behavior by acknowledging it, consumes your energy, and wastes everyone’s time. Just flag it. The option to flag a post is just next to the Reply button. If enough flags accrue, action will be taken, either automatically or by moderator intervention.

In order to maintain our community, moderators reserve the right to remove any content and any user account for any reason at any time. Moderators do not preview new posts in any way; the moderators and site operators take no responsibility for any content posted by the community.

Concerns regarding SketchUp’s community forums, content, or policies should be directed to community-manager-ug@sketchup.com. Discussions conducted through appropriate channels are welcome.

Stay on Topic

Discussions should remain relevant to the established topics of interest to the SketchUp community. Off-topic discussions, including but not limited to those about politics or religion, will be removed. Discussions that are off topic but adjacent can be posted in the off-topic category. These posts are subject to moderation and may be deemed too out of scope. Do your best to contribute to the community in ways we can all learn and grow together. Make the effort to put things in the right place, that way we can spend more time discussing and less time cleaning up.

With all that in mind, before you post a topic or reply, here are a few guidelines to follow:

  • Don’t start a topic in the wrong category. If you aren’t sure where you should post a topic, you can see a full list of categories by clicking All Categories in the left-hand navigation menu.
  • Don’t create overly long, meandering topic titles. Simple and concise titles encourage wider engagement with the community.
  • Don’t post the same reply in multiple topics.
  • Don’t post replies with no content like “+1” or “Agreed”. Instead, use the emotes available at the bottom of a post.
  • Don’t derail a topic by changing it midstream. If you have a tangent to the original topic, choose the Reply as Linked Topic option when composing your reply.
  • Don’t sign your posts — every post has your profile information attached to it. You can edit your profile to include a lot of great information that other members can view by clicking your username on any post.
  • Don’t post the same topic in multiple categories. If your topic talks about something that addresses multiple categories, choose the one that fits best.

Be yourself

Users must use appropriate nicknames, brand names, or usernames that accurately represent themselves. Impersonating others through misleading usernames is strictly prohibited.

Enforcement of Guidelines

Violations of these guidelines will result in action taken by SketchUp Moderation Teams. Depending on the nature of the violation, consequences may include a warning through a private message, the revocation of privileges, or suspension of your account. Incidents of guideline violations should be reported or flagged for review.

To use this service, you must agree to abide by our TOS.
