I have used Sketchup for simple mechanical and architectural designs, and I love the speed and simplicity compared to the heavyweight CAD tools I have used in electronic design or that I see my colleagues using in mechanical design.
My skill with the program is beginner to intermediate, depending on the project, and what features are required.
I use Windows, because that is required for my day job, but I would prefer either Mac or Linux. Currently, I am using a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 as my everyday, carry around machine. I like the portability and the really sharp screen.
