Joshua de Bruin is the founder and principal designer of Studio JDB, a spatial design practice based in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. His work redefines spatial experiences through an innovative fusion of event, exhibition, and retail design, grounded in the timeless elegance of Bauhaus minimalism. Joshua holds a Bachelor of Built Environment from Rotterdam, bringing a European design sensibility to projects across the South African market. Over more than a decade in practice, he has consulted across the building, interior, and advertising industries, translating brand stories into immersive physical environments. His portfolio spans experiential pop-ups, exhibition stands, and retail activations designed to create emotionally resonant encounters between people and space. A recognised SketchUp expert with over ten years of experience in the platform, Joshua pairs deep technical fluency with a strategic, detail-driven design process. He has also embraced emerging tools such as VR design, using virtual walkthroughs to help clients experience spaces before they are built. At Studio JDB, he leads a team of architects and designers committed to innovative spatial solutions and precise project execution. His approach combines strategic thinking with individualised client attention, ensuring each project reflects the brand and audience it serves. Based in Botha’s Hill, Joshua works with clients locally and internationally to craft spaces that are as functional as they are memorable.
